When all seemed to be over
The case began with the arrest of our client on charges of smuggling a large quantity of narcotics. The Public Prosecution initiated the investigation and referred him to the competent court, demanding the harshest penalties prescribed by law. Following the trial sessions, a preliminary judgment was issued convicting our client and sentencing him to death as a discretionary punishment (Ta'zir). At that point, all doors seemed to have closed, and the case turned into one of the most difficult challenges his family had ever faced. But that was not the end. The office took over the case before the Court of Appeal, and the pleadings continued until the court re-examined the case anew. Ultimately, the Court of Appeal issued a ruling overturning the death penalty and replacing it with a seven-year prison sentence, transforming the case from a judgment that meant the end of life… into a new hope.
